looking for news about upcoming classes? there’s lots of news after this brief lil’ramble.
I joined a writing group to help protect my writing time. Now I am writing more but I have less to share with you. You probably don’t notice, don’t miss the mid-week ramble I skipped this month, and I’m grateful. I tell you this because I want to remind you that you can make stuff and not share it. You can come to a weekly class or writing group, collage or write and have nothing to show at the moment. Or ever.

I like sharing my practice at least as much as I like sharing my finished work. I started this substack to encourage myself to write more, and I do. But some weeks nothing is finished, or all the essays I wrote were for grant applications.. I wrote two poems I don’t want to share. All of this is part of the creative process. Make make make, rest, edit, share. The most important step is make.
Last week I celebrated 4 years in Portland, a wildly unpredictable ride that currently is moving towards deeper friendships, spending more time teaching and making art, and slowly regaining confidence as a writer. With my camper sold, I am back to sleeping in my truck on roadtrips but am making it extra cozy. If only I could find the leak in the roof.

want to hear next week’s essay before anyone else?
I was invited to read at Small Press Palooza because I wrote a zine about creative practice and instead I am going to read an essay about grief, friendships, and dancing alone based on the real life events of the past few weeks. See you there! (PS I am reading promptly at 5 but stay for the others!)
