I’m trying a thing!
Happy National Poetry Month!
In celebration of that and for my love of poetry, I am trying a something new—a newsletter that is just me reading a poem I love, paired with a photo I took. It will NOT be sent to you automatically, because who can stand to receive any more emails?
I will sometimes remind you it exists here.
The first one was published this morning.
Let me know if you listen! I want it to be simple and accessible, a break from scrolling and too much information. I’d love to know what you think.
My goal is to share a poem every day for national poetry month and I have a pile of poems to record.
PS you can find it at the top of my homepage, or bookmark this tab.
read! more! trans! authors!
Yesterday was Trans Day of Visibility and so I am sharing some of my favorite recent reads by transfolks.
A Natural History of Transition by Callum Angus: odd and fascinating short stories, Cal often writes at the intersection of science and literature (He also is an editor of the online journal smoke and mold which I also recommend)
Nevada Imogen Binnie : I’m a few years behind everyone on this, but I think it holds up. I love stories with unresolved plots though, space for awkward discomfort, plans that go awry. Ok, I also love happy-ending-romance but this book is unapologeticly uneasy and a little messy.
Woodworking by Emily St.James: When I say messy, I mean, characters that defy stereotype and expectation, and this is another good one. I listened to this (and also Nevada) at my day job and had to stop occasionally to catch my breath from the feelings.
Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner Yes, romance, with light spice, focusing on two women soccer players in New Orleans by a non-binary author.
Up next for me: The Death of Vivek Oji by non-binary author Akwaeke Emezi. I’ll report back.
Spring is the best time of year, but I know many of us are struggling. I really appreciate you being here.
take care of each other!
Hope
